To be honest, the exact phrasing doesn’t really matter—not when we have Renée Zellweger showing us in real time just how true the sentiment is. Case in point: On February 12, 2025, Zellweger stepped out for the New York premiere of Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy in a off-the-shoulder satin Prada column dress, which she teamed with matching pointed-toe pumps in the same shade of pale khaki. The actor wore her hair in an updo, with a few face-framing pieces tucked behind her ears, and kept her makeup minimal, with just a swipe of berry lipstick and a rosy glow. Her only accessory? A statement ring in a matching olive color from David Webb.
Now, compare this to her 2020 BAFTAs look. Almost exactly five years ago, on February 3, 2020, Zellweger wore an off-the-shoulder satin Prada gown, this one in a shade of pale pink. She styled her hair in an updo with a few face-framing pieces tucked behind her ears, and forwent a necklace or earrings in favor of a statement ring and cuffs…from David Webb. She finished the look with matching, pale pink satin pointed-toe heels and a peachy flush.
Of course, this is not the exact same look—her khaki-colored gown included subtle ruching at the bust as well as a belted waistline, and fell just above her ankles; her BAFTAs gown, on the other hand, featured an unfussy sweetheart-neckline and the skirt just kissed the floor. But you can’t deny the similarities, especially given the styling (the matching shoes, the same hairstyle, and the David Webb statement jewelry) and the fact that the dress is Prada. The point is, Renée Zellweger and her stylist, Petra Flannery, know what works, and they’re sticking to it.
Notably, when Zellweger attended the 2020 BAFTAs, she took home the award for best leading actress for her role in Judy, the Judy Garland biopic.
