Country music has a new power couple, y’all. It’s Lainey Wilson and Devlin Hodges, her new fiancé. The Grammy-winner and NFL quarterback-turned-realtor kept their relationship quiet for two full years before finally going public on the red carpet in 2023, but clearly their hiding era is now over.
Since taking their love mainstream, Wilson has opened up about the couple’s first date, how Hodges fits into her songwriting process, wanting to settle down, and now, their engagement. Wilson and Hodges still aren’t the most public celebrity couple ever seen (pretty sure Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton still have that title), but there is still plenty to discuss and gush over.

February 12, 2025: After four(ish) years of dating, Hodges finally pops the question! The couple announced their big news with a shared Instagram post, captioned for one of Wilson’s new singles, “4x4xU forever.”

October 2024: Wilson posts two Instagram Reels with her beau, showing the two of them driving through some sort of wilderness, set to “4x4xU.” One post she captioned, “ain’t nowhere I’d rather be.” The other, she captioned with just a duck emoji, a wink at her man’s nickname, Duck.
August 2024: While promoting her latest album, Whirlwinds, Wilson tells Billboard that Hodges plays a part in her songwriting process, though she’ll never be a “mushy gushy” songwriter. “Everything I ever write, he hears because he truly is my best friend and he’s got a great ear,” she told the mag. “He can’t sing a lick—he tries to—and he’s got great taste. I know if I send him a demo or work tape, and he keeps going back and listening to it over and over, there must be something about this. He’s not in the business, he don’t have anything to do with this, and it’s nice to be able to see what other people’s opinions are because that’s the listener right there.”
Wilson also jokes that she is more than ready to be engaged and start the rest of her life with Hodges. “I guess I’m going to have to propose to his ass, because he ain’t proposed to me,” she told Taste of Country Nights, but added, “I think it needs to be during a season of our life where we really have the time to enjoy it. Right now it would be like, ‘Oh shoot, I’m engaged. Okay, onto the next thing.’”
November 9, 2023: Hodges posts a long, adorable ode to his girlfriend on Instagram, congratulating her on winning Entertainer of the Year at the CMAs.
“She already heard what I’m fixing to say, but I just want y’all to hear it once. This girl is the most hard working person I know. Her work ethic and her desire to be the best person she can be is contagious,” Hodges gushed. “I’m so happy that all the hard work continues to pay off. Congrats on all the awards last night and especially the BIGGEST AWARD OF THE NIGHT! ENTERTAINER OF THE YEAR!. I’m so glad she can be some of y’all’s favorite artist, sing your favorite song. Or be your daughters favorite role model. I’m just thankful to call her my best friend.”
June 2, 2023: Wilson opens up about her relationship with Hodges for the first time in an interview on The Bobby Bones Show.
“He’s been around for a while. I just decided to make him wait for two and a half years,” she said jokingly. “But I’ll tell you, he is good as gold. Supports me, would never come in between anything that I’m trying to do. He’s like, ‘Go get it, girl.’ And I made him wait for a while. I mean…it’s been a little over two years now.”
May 11, 2023: Wilson and Hodges become the talk of the town as they reveal their relationship on the ACM awards red carpet, their first public appearance together.
2021: Wilson and Hodges are introduced by mutual friends and have their first date in Nashville, according to an interview Wilson gave to People. “We went to this old place called Silverados, and it had free beer and wine from 5 to 10 p.m.,” she said. “I was like, ‘This boy likes to ball on a budget too. This is gonna work out.’” She added, “Duck is the kind of dude who high-fives me on the way in the door and on the way out and says, ‘Go get it.’ He knows how important this dream is to me.”
