Korean sales company Finecut has announced multiple deals for upcoming occult animation Exorcism Chronicles: The Beginning and horror title Noise, ahead of Berlin‘s European Film Market (EFM).

Exorcism Chronicles: The Beginning, an adaptation of a best-selling novel in Korea with over 10 million copies sold and 238 million views online, has been acquired by Pro Films (Bulgaria), Polyband (GAS), Cineplex (Latin America) and Cola Films (Taiwan).

The film follows Father Park, a doctor-turned priest who must protect a naive yet powerful child from his corrupt master within a secretive, magic-wielding temple or risk repeating the same tragedy that he took up the cross to prevent. The film premiered last year at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia.

The animation is produced by Locus Animation Studios and it will have a wide release on February 21 in South Korea.

Noise has been picked up by Westec Media (Cambodia), Twin (Japan), Great Movies (Latin America), Antenna Entertainment (Malaysia and Brunei), Media4Fun (Poland), Cai Chang International (Taiwan), Lumix Media (Vietnam) in addition to the previously announced sales to KMBO (France), Red Castle Group (CIS), PT Prima Cinema Multimedia (Indonesia), and Iris Cinema Thailand (Thailand).

The film premiered at the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia in the competitive section, and Finecut will be hosting a market premiere screening of the film at EFM.

Noise follows a woman with a hearing aid haunted by inexplicable sounds linked to her sister’s disappearance in her own apartment and attracting a malevolent presence. The film stars Lee Sun-bin (Work Later, Drink Now) and Kim Min-seok (Body Parts).

The film marks the feature debut of director Kim Soo-jin, whose short film The Line was invited to the Cinefondation at the Cannes Film Festival in 2013.

Presented by KC Ventures and BY4M Studio, Noise is produced by Studio Finecut, with a planned wide release in South Korea set for May.

Other titles that Finecut are bringing to EFM include A Girl with Closed Eyes starring Pachinko’s Kim Min-ha, Hong Sang-soo’s What Does that Nature Say to You, Tristes Tropiques and Secret: Untold Melody.
