Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr announced on Wednesday that he has requested the agency investigate Comcast and its subsidiary, NBCUniversal, over their diversity, equity, and inclusion practices.
Carr wrote in a post on X that he informed Comcast CEO Brian Roberts about the pending probe.
‘There is substantial evidence that your companies are still engaging in the promotion of DEI.’
“I am concerned that his companies may be promoting invidious forms of DEI that do not comply with FCC regulations & civil rights laws,” Carr stated.
He noted that DEI initiatives push “forms of discrimination” that “have long been condemned by America’s civil rights laws.”
“As the Supreme Court has written, the classifications drawn by extreme DEI policies stigmatize individuals by reason of a group identity and are, by their very definition, odious to a free people whose institutions are founded on a commitment to equality,” Carr added.
He applauded President Donald Trump for taking “quick and decisive action to root out the scourge of DEI.”
Carr stated that Trump’s executive actions have ended DEI practices within the FCC, and now the agency is dedicated to ensuring that every company it regulates complies with civil rights laws.
Carr shared his three-page letter to Roberts, which explained why the FCC is beginning its efforts to eliminate DEI with Comcast and NBCUniversal.
“Firstly … there is substantial evidence that your companies are still engaging in the promotion of DEI. Second, your companies cover a range of sectors regulated by the FCC — from cable to high-speed Internet and from broadcast TV stations to MVNO wireless offerings,” Carr wrote.
A Comcast spokesperson told ABC News, “We have received an inquiry from the Federal Communications Commission and will be cooperating with the FCC to answer their questions. For decades, our company has been built on a foundation of integrity and respect for all of our employees and customers.”
Last week, Carr announced that the FCC had launched an investigation into a San Francisco radio station that allegedly exposed the “live location” of undercover federal immigration agents. The local station is owned by Audacy, which was bailed out of more than $400 million of debt by leftist billionaire George Soros, making him a considerable stakeholder in the second-largest radio company.
