A New Jersey plane passenger made obscene, violent threats against his flight’s pilot and crew — and even threatened “physical violence toward a disabled minor” and Jewish passengers, according to officials.
Luis A. Vaquero, 27, of Passaic County, “began threatening and harassing various passengers” soon after his flight took off Sunday from Miami to Newark Liberty International Airport, federal prosecutors said in a statement.
He then turned on a crew member who refused to serve him booze — telling her, âYou better watch out, s–tâs gonna happen to you,” the release said.
The flight crew alerted police as soon as the plane landed at Newark.
But hearing the announcement that officers were coming, Vaquero began banging on the cockpit door, screaming, “I need the pilot to come outside!”
When a flight attendant came to intervene, Vaquero yelled, ” I will really break your f—in’ jaw n—a!” prosecutors alleged.
He also yelled, “I wanna see that f—in’ captain! Come outside you bitchh a– n—a!” according to the press release.
Vaquero continued to make violent threats to the captain while six inches from his face â right up until law enforcement arrived and escorted him off the plane.
He was charged by complaint in Newark federal court with one count of interference with flight crew members and attendants by assault or intimidation. It carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a maximum fine of $250,000.
“The harrowing flight and other similar incidents onboard airplanes recently are creating tension and fear for fliers and crew members,” Acting Special Agent in Charge Terence G. Reilly said, calling it “a terrifying attack.”
“FBI Newark has a warning for those who think it may not be a big deal â they’re breaking federal law, and they will be brought to justice.â
