Some of Kate Middleton’s most unforgettable fashion moments have come from her red-carpet appearances at the BAFTA Awards, the annual celebration for the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, of which husband Prince William is president. The 2025 BAFTAs won’t, however, bring the world another dazzling Princess Kate look to swoon over: She and William will not attend the awards on February 16.
Kensington Palace confirmed Tuesday that the Waleses will be absent from this year’s ceremony, and that William will prerecord a video to be shown at the event. He is also set to visit the London Screen Academy on Wednesday.
William attended the 2024 BAFTAs solo, while Kate was still on hiatus from public engagements as she recovered following a January abdominal surgery. In March 2024, she shared in a video that she had been diagnosed with an unspecified form of cancer and was undergoing chemotherapy treatment. On the red carpet for the BAFTAs in 2024, William apologized for his wife’s absence and said, “She does love the BAFTAs.”
Though Kate has completed chemotherapy and has officially returned to work, her public events schedule remains scaled back compared to previous years. Her most recent appearance at the BAFTA Awards was 2023, when she wowed in a white one-shouldered Alexander McQueen gown, which she paired with sleek black opera gloves.
It was also recently reported that Princess Kate will no longer share the fashion details of her ensembles at public appearances, apparently in an attempt to shift the focus away from her wardrobe and onto her work.
