Brenda Song, who became famous by starring in Disney Channel shows like The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, doesn’t think that her youthful acting career was on the same level of her husband, Macaulay Culkin, who she described as “the most famous child actor in the world.” However, the 36-year-old Running Point actress said the “trauma” of working in Hollywood at a young age was something she and Culkin, 44, connected over on the February 10 episode of Sibling Revelry.
Song told co-hosts Kate and Oliver Hudson that she and the Home Alone star had “very different” experiences of the entertainment industry, and that it was “fascinating” to compare them. Still, they had enough common ground to form a connection.
“It wasn’t one of the first things we connected on,” explained Song, “but I think there was this unspoken understanding that we’ve had certain trauma that we both share that we didn’t even quite realize stems from us being child actors.” The Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior star said that she and her husband both experienced “Certain anxieties or stressors or even triggers that you don’t realize. You don’t realize as a kid, how much that affects you as an adult.”
Culkin’s childhood was marred by conflict with his family, particularly his father, Kit Culkin, whose name he had removed from his trust fund in 1997.
In spite of the aforementioned trauma, the two former child actors are proud and happy parents to sons Dakota, now 3, and Carson, now 2. Culkin has also revealed that he looks back very fondly on his experience filming Home Alone, and that he still calls co-star Catherine O’Hara, who played his mother in the film, “Mom.”
Song, for her part, has continued her relationship with Disney, starring in Disney Channel animated series Amphibia and in partner company Hulu‘s show Dollface.
