There won’t be any roses handed out on The Bachelorette this summer.
According to Deadline, ABC has decided to put a temporary hold on its Bachelor spinoff, disappointing fans of the long-running dating franchise.
Traditionally, the show begins filming around this time, with the last three seasons premiering in July. However, the series hasn’t been canceled and is expected to return to the Disney-owned network at a later date.
While it’s unlikely to air this year, insiders haven’t completely ruled out a potential late-season comeback.
The reasoning behind the pause remains unclear, but it’s not an unprecedented move in The Bachelor franchise.
For instance, Bachelor in Paradise was absent from the lineup last year, making room for The Golden Bachelorette. The summer spinoff is now set to return for its tenth season, with Scott Teti taking over as showrunner, making it the next installment in The Bachelor universe to hit the airwaves.
Produced by Warner Bros. Unscripted Television in partnership with Warner Horizon, The Bachelorette has taken breaks before—despite debuting in 2003, it skipped airing in both 2006 and 2007. The show follows a single woman, often a former Bachelor contestant, as she narrows down a group of around 25 men, culminating in a final rose ceremony where she chooses between two finalists. Last season, Jenn Tran made history as the franchise’s first Asian American Bachelorette, ultimately selecting Devin Strader.
This scheduling change comes as The Bachelor kicks off its 29th season, with Grant Ellis stepping into the lead role.
Over the years, The Bachelor universe has spawned numerous spinoffs, including Bachelor Pad (which aired from 2010 to 2012), 2018’s The Bachelor: Winter Games, the music-centered The Bachelor Presents: Listen to Your Heart (2020), and last year’s hit The Golden Bachelor.
