Approximately 500,000 LG branded electric ovens sold at stores including Costco have been recalled nationwide.

Newsweek has contacted Costco and LG for comment via email.

Why It Matters

The ovens were recalled after they were linked to more than 28 fires, which caused multiple injuries and resulted in the deaths of several pets.

It comes after Samsung recalled more than 1.1 million electric ovens in August 2024 for the same reason after the electric ranges caused 250 fires and injured dozens and killed at least seven pets.

What To Know

The recall notice was issued after the ovens caused dozens of fires that burned properties, people and pets.

The fires were caused by front-mounted knobs that can be turned accidentally, with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) receiving at least 86 reports of unintentional activation, which have caused more than 28 fires, according to the recall notice. The notice was issued by LG Electronics and posted by the CPSC.

At least five of the fires caused extensive property damage totaling more than $340,000, and at least eight minor injuries have been reported, including burns, and at least three of the fires involved the deaths of pets, according to the federal agency.

The recalled LG branded ovens were sold at stores including Best Buy, Costco, The Home Depot, Lowe’s, and online at LG.com between 2015 and January 2025 for between $1,400 and $2,650, depending on the model.

Manufactured in Mexico and Korea by LG Electronics Inc. of Korea, the ranges were imported by the company’s U.S. subsidiary, based in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey.

All the ovens impacted by the recall contain a Slide-In and Freestanding Electric Range and have one of the following model numbers printed inside the oven’s door or storage drawer: LDE4411ST, LDE4413ST, LDE4413BD, LSE4611ST, LSE4611BD, LSE4613ST, LSE4613BD, LSEL6337D, LSEL6337F, LSEL6331F, LSEL6333F, LSEL6333D, LSEL6335D, LSEL6335F, LTE4815BM, LTE4815BD, LTE4815ST, LRE4215ST or LTEL7337F.

Model and serial numbers involved in the recall can be found here.

From 2018 to May 30, 2024, CPSC data reported 338 incidents of accidental range or cooktop activation across 10 manufacturers, including two fatalities and 31 nonfatal injuries.

“Additionally, CPSC staff have found two other fatal incidents where a range was accidentally turned on when a knob was bumped, but the manufacturer is unknown,” CPSC said.

What People Are Saying

The recall notice stated: “Consumers are cautioned to keep children and pets away from the knobs, to check the range knobs to ensure they are off before leaving home or going to bed, and not to leave objects on the range when the range is not in use.”

What Happens Next

In the recall notice, LG said owners of the recalled ranges should contact the company for a free warning label and placement instructions. The label advises consumers to activate the lockout/control lock function on the range panel to prevent the heating elements from being accidentally activated when not in use.

LG Electronics can be reached at 800-399-3265 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST Monday through Friday, or by email at [email protected], or at https://lgecares.com/rangerecall.
