Jenna Bush Hager floored everyone in the Today With Jenna & Friends studio when she shared the bizarre experience she had leading up to the birth to her first child, Mila, almost 12 years ago.
Bush Hager revealed to guest host Ego Nwodim that she attended a Soul Cycle class the day her daughter was born. “She was very early,” Bush Hager explained.
But Nwodim and members of the Today stage crew gasped in surprise at Bush Hager’s confession. “She was very early! Don’t gasp at me!” she responded.
The Today host clarified that she was eight-and-a-half months pregnant by that point. She then recalled the chaos that ensued when she went into labor later that day.
“It was at my baby shower that my water broke,” Bush Hager recounted. “[My sister] Barbara called Henry to tell him that I was going to the hospital and he was like, ‘Those sisters that play pranks on me. I’m not falling for it!’”
She continued, “And actually Carrie, who’s one of our producers, was there, and she’s lovely and her husband said, ‘No Henry, I know Barbara and Jenna would act like that to you, but Carrie would never lie to me, so you need to go to the hospital.’”
Bush Hager and Nwodim shared a laugh as Nwodim pointed out, “So he trusted Carrie more than you?”
“He did! And I basically trust Carrie more than I trust myself,” Bush Hager responded.
The Today host then revealed that someone also made an “inappropriate” comment towards her at the Soul Cycle class that day.
“I was on the bike and the guy behind me was like, ‘Girl, you’re huge we’re gonna have to carry you out of here like a trojan horse!’” she recalled. “I was like, I don’t mind if you come to the class but please don’t comment on my size.”
“That’s inappropriate,” Nwodim agreed.
Despite her initial shock, she later gave Bush Hager “kudos” for continuing to work out during her pregnancy. “I would not,” Nwodim admitted.
Today with Jenna & Friends airs on weekdays at 10/9c on NBC.
