Per Ari Meirove, “Deion Sanders told @dpshow that he has already spoken to ‘a few’ teams he might have concerns about if they draft Shedeur Sanders. ‘I like to get my why’s answered.’”
In an appearance on “The Dan Patrick Show,” Sander was asked, “As a father are there teams you prefer [Shedeur] didn’t play for?”
“There’s a lot of teams I prefer he didn’t play for,” Sanders answered, laughing. “Are there teams you don’t want to watch… there’s teams I didn’t want to play for.”
“I’m a real dad who has a lot of information about the NFL. I know some folks who know some folks who know some folks in the NFL. I know what’s behind the curtain. I’m going to lead them in the right direction.”
“How do you navigate that?” Patrick continued.
“I would meet with them behind closed doors…I would not put them on the front street, because people are working too hard. I would meet with them privately to talk about my concerns, so we could have an understanding.”
“Has that happened already?” Patrick asked.
“Yes,” Sanders said, after a long pause. “A few. I just want to know. I just want to know why. If you don’t get your whys answered, you’re always going to be curious in life. I like to get my whys answered.”
Deion Sanders also recently spoke on “First Take” from New Orleans, ahead of Super Bowl LIX, about his son Shedeur’s upcoming journey to the 2025 NFL Draft. While the process is still unfolding, Coach Prime shared that his son has one clear ambition: to be drafted higher than Deion was—aiming to break his father’s fifth-overall pick by landing somewhere in the top four.
“I’m leaving it in God’s hands,” Deion said when asked about the ideal draft spot for Shedeur. “We don’t always get what we want, but we trust the process. We never prayed for No. 1, we just wanted Shedeur to go in the first round, and now he’s far exceeded all expectations. But Shedeur’s told me he wants to surpass his dad, and that means he’s targeting No. 1 through No. 4.”
After an impressive senior season at Colorado, where Shedeur threw for 4,134 yards, 37 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions, his name is being thrown around among the top five picks in several mock drafts.
Deion, always vocal about his son’s talent, used his “First Take” appearance to explain why he believes Shedeur is the most qualified quarterback in this draft class.
“He’s played under seven different offensive coordinators, and with an offensive line that’s often been criticized, yet he still stepped up and delivered every time,” Deion explained. “He’s made the most out of less-than-ideal situations, and that’s why I believe he’s the best choice for any team. He’s not had the best, but he’s made the best of what he’s had.”
