EXCLUSIVE: Braden Aftergood has departed as partner at Sylvester Stallone‘s Balboa Productions, sources tell Deadline. A replacement is expected to be named soon, I hear.

Stallone partnered with Aftergood in 2018 to launch Balboa Productions. The film and TV company, which initially had a multi-year pact with Starlight Culture Entertainment for feature development, has been under a first-look film and TV deal at Amazon MGM Studios since 2023.

Aftergood’s exit has come as a surprise to many as he has been actively working with Amazon on projects in development. Accounts as to why he has been let go vary. Some point to Aftergood’s work on a side movie project as a reason though I hear that film may have been carved out of his Balboa deal. Others claim that the partnership has run its course.

Watch on Deadline

I hear Aftergood has retained an attorney, and his exit is being negotiated, including what projects in the pipeline he would continue to work on.

Together, Stallone and Aftergood produced several movies, including the 2022 Samaritan, starring Stallone, and MVP as well as the 2024 Lost On A Mountain In Maine. The duo also executive produced the 2023 Stallone documentary Sly, and Aftergood serves as an executive producer on Stallone’s hit Paramount+ series Tulsa King, from Taylor Sheridan.

Before teaming up with Stallone, Aftergood was principal at Eighty Two Films, a banner that he has kept active. He previously executive produced Wind River and the Oscar-nominated Hell or High Water.
