Marvel Studios dropped its first real look at Matt Shakman’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps today, featuring Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Marvel’s “First Family,” the Fantastic Four.
Featuring the team already suited up and with their powers, living as down-home celebrities in a Tomorrowland ’60s aesthetic, the teaser shows off Sue Storm’s invisibility, Ben Grimm’s rocky exterior, Johnny Storm’s flames, and even a quick shot of Galactus — but notably not Reed Richards’ stretching.
A lot is riding on the Fantastic Four this time, with the film positioned to kick off “Phase Six” of the Marvel Cinematic Universe — a new, Kang-less future that ideally clears the way for a better version of Avengers: Secret Wars and the rise of Doctor Doom as the franchise’s chief villain — and the wreckage of three previous attempts at a hit FF movie franchise that were “fine” at their best and disasters more often. The last time Marvel Studios parted the curtain to give a look at FF, it was at San Diego Comic-Con 2024, where the Hall H audience got an early look at the movie’s versions of the Fantasticar and Galactus, voiced by The Green Knight’s Ralph Ineson.
The Fantastic Four cast includes Pascal as Mr. Fantastic, Kirby as the Invisible Woman, Quinn as the Human Torch, and Moss-Bachrach as the Thing, with Julia Garner as the Silver Surfer, and John Malkovich and Natasha Lyonne in undisclosed roles.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps hits theaters on July 25th.
