A millennial has garnered attention after quizzing his co-workers on an iconic 2000s pop culture moment.
Radio host, 36-year-old Andrew Beckler from Canada, set the challenge for his colleagues, asking them to complete the phrase: “Brr, it’s cold in here.”
“I saw a car dealership in Barrie, Ontario, do a similar style of video but with 90s rap lyrics,” he told Newsweek. “I’m a radio host and we’re always on the hunt for relatable content to post. I wondered if there would be a generational divide for an iconic line like ‘Brr, it’s cold in here.’”
For millennials, the correct response is practically muscle memory: “There must be some Toros in the atmosphere!”—a cheer from Bring It On, the iconic 2000 teen flick. But for Gen Z? Not so much.
Beckler first posed the question to his Gen Z coworker, Sam, who looked puzzled before responding: “No, it’s not.”
Logan, 27, who sits on the cusp between Gen Z and millennial, hesitated before guessing: “Colder than a vampire’s demeanor?”
Jim, an older staff member, had an entirely different take: “I would say put some clothes on.”
But then came the millennials. Seanna, 37, didn’t miss a beat: “There must be some Toros in the atmosphere!” Kim, another millennial, confidently followed up with: “Must be some Clovers in the atmosphere, yeah?”
“I expected the result I got—that older people would know it while younger people wouldn’t,” Beckler said. “The comments seemed to think it was due to a gender divide more than an age divide. That may be true, but I’m a male and grew up with brothers and still knew it.”
The comments section in the video with over 1.7 million views sparked conversation about the iconic pop culture reference.
“I’m 29 and got it immediately! but i think a lot of girls my age would know it, but not many guys,” said TikToker Bex.
One user, bedabbooked, wrote: “Lol, I’m Gen X and even I knew the answer.”
Viewer Bobby Bourdeau commented: “The moment you said ‘Brrr’ I knew exactly where this was going.”
“Our fellow millennials understood the assignment,” TC wrote.
“32 and know it from kids singing it at school when I was at school,” said strawberry.sunshine.
TikToker Sarah O’Conner said: “This was painful to watch the first few people.”
The video is another example of how pop culture references define generations. For millennials, Bring It On is sacred. For Gen Z, it’s ancient history.
One thing’s for sure—if you knew the right answer without hesitation, congratulations. You’re officially a millennial.
