Kate Hudson is returning to our screens in Running Point, Netflix’s newest TV series about love and basketball (a classic combination). And on January 31, we not got a brand new trailer to obsess over.
The 10-episode series executive produced and co-written by Mindy Kaling tells the story of an “overlooked” woman (Hudson) who takes over her family’s business, a fictional basketball franchise called the Los Angeles Waves, after her brother (Justin Theroux) is forced to resign amid a scandal.
She must prove herself to the sports world, her family, and all those who doubt her that she can step up to the job. Here’s everything else we know so far about Running Point.
What’s the Running Point plot?
Netflix’s plot synopsis reads as follows: “When a scandal forces her brother to resign, Isla Gordon (Kate Hudson) is appointed president of the Los Angeles Waves, one of the most storied professional basketball franchises, and her family business. Ambitious and often overlooked, Isla will have to prove to her skeptical brothers, the board, and the larger sports community that she was the right choice for the job. Over the course of the series, she sets out to do just that.”
The show, produced by Kaling, Ike Barinholtz, and David Stassen, “puts a bold twist on the underdog comedy,” adds Netflix.
Who is in the Running Point cast?
Joining Hudson in the cast of Netflix’s Running Point are Brenda Song, New Girl‘s Max Greenfield, Chet Hanks (yes, Tom’s son), Insecure’s Jay Ellis, Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur, Fabrizio Guido, and Toby Sandeman.
Song plays Ali Lee, described by Netflix as “the Waves’ intimidating chief of staff” and the character who “knows where the bodies are buried.”
“She understands the complex politics surrounding the Gordon family, having known Isla since they shared a dorm room in college,” the character description continues. “She’s funny, tough, and even the biggest guy on the team is scared of her.”
Greenfield, meanwhile, will play Isla’s fiancé, who cheers her on from behind the scenes and is described as “a good-natured pediatrician who enthusiastically supports his love.” No one does enthusiasm quite like Greenfield.
Justin Theroux also appears in the series, though it’s unclear if he’s a regular.
What is the Running Point release date?
All episodes of Running Point will drop on Netflix on February 27.
