The A-list actress who “doesn’t talk” to Reese Witherspoon anymore has seemingly been identified.
Earlier this week, the “Legally Blonde” star revealed in a new interview that a fellow Hollywood star allegedly ended their friendship after she called out their idea to get “laser hair removal” while presenting her with an award.
For the sake of privacy, Witherspoon refused to name-drop the actress during the candid chat. However, after some sleuthing, Just Jared reported Thursday that the mysterious celebrity Witherspoon was referring to was Kate Winslet.
During the 2007 BAFTA/LA Cunard Britannia Awards, Witherspoon presented the “Titanic” star with the prestigious artist of the year award.
While standing in front of an audience to present Winslet, the “Big Little Lies” star kicked off her speech by saying, “I always wanted to be a European movie star, wear giant sunglasses, elaborate neck scarves, smoke hand-rolled cigarettes and have savoir-faire and gravitas.
“Imagine my good fortune when Kate Winslet moved into my neighborhood, rang my doorbell and said, “Darling, Sam [Mendes] is off shooting, and I believe our children are the same age. Could they possibly have a play date and oh, by the way, it’s almost 9 o’clock and I’ve had nothing to do drink, do you have any wine?’”
During her speech, Witherspoon praised Winslet for her fearlessness. However, she also called her out for “pee[ing] all over herself in front of Harvey Keitel” in “Holy Smoke.”
Witherspoon, 48, further pointed out that she wanted to tell more of their stories but couldn’t because they were “too bawdy or tawdy or drunken to tell,” including the time they “contemplated laser hair removal.”
The revelation comes just one day after Witherspoon recalled losing a friend for roasting her in a speech while presenting her with an award.
During the joint interview with Will Ferrell for People, she admitted “it literally haunts” her to this day.
“So this friend of mine — who I didn’t really know that well, but she was a very serious, proper actress — she asked me to give her an award.”
However, because Witherspoon “had never been” to that particular awards ceremony, she “thought [it] was like a roast.”
“So I got up and I roasted her,” she recalled before pointing out that the “tone [of the gala] was British and elegant and classy.”
She added, “And I was like, ‘Remember the time we got laser hair removal?!’”
Despite finding the situation “embarrassing” and funny, Winslet, 49, apparently did not.
“We’re not friends anymore. I’m not even kidding — we’re not friends anymore. I think she doesn’t like me anymore,” Witherspoon told Ferrell, 57. “I thought it was so funny, and it was just, I had the wrong audience. It was pretty bad. I’m not even kidding, she doesn’t talk to me anymore. Oh, well.”
Reps for Witherspoon and Winslet did not immediately respond to Page Six’s requests for comment.
