If you’re the kind of romantic who starts stocking up on Valentine’s Day decor as soon as it hits the shelves, the reason might have something to do with your astrological chart. Turns out, some zodiac signs are naturally drawn to any opportunity to express or exhibit their romantic feelings, which means Feb. 14 is one of their favorite days of the year.
The signs astrologically programmed to swoon for the holiday have personality characteristics that set them up to love love, including a knack for excitement, a hunger for surprise, a flare for passion, and a need for expression. While all signs might love Valentine’s Day in their own way, it takes a certain type of person to show off that love on social media or brave the crowds for a romantic dinner at the busiest restaurant in town.
Keep in mind that everyone has their own love language, too, which could also impact their flair for V-Day. If you’re in a new relationship or are about to embark on your first V-Day with your partner, you might want to talk it out beforehand so you can both manage expectations and cater to each other’s preferences.
If you’re not the biggest fan but are in a relationship with a sign that holds Valentine’s Day in a holy regard, you might want to go out of your way to ensure they have a great time. Aries (March 20 – April 18)
According to astrologer Lisa Stardust, Aries have no problem expressing their feelings year-round, but especially on Valentine’s Day. If you’re partnered with a ram, surprising them is one way to get in on the fun and make sure they have the best time.
“If you do something big and bold to surprise an Aries, you will really capture them,” Stardust previously told Bustle. “Unexpected gifts are one of the best ways to win them over.” An Aries also tends to enjoy the spectacle of Valentine’s Day.
This energetic fire sign will want to see everyone’s sappy posts on social media, witness the crowds lining up for three-course meals, and they might even keep an eye out for drama, like day-of breakups. They like to have fun, and holidays are just another excuse to do so.
Taurus (April 19 – May 19)
Because Taurus is the leading ruler of pleasure in the zodiac, you can bet the bull will be living it up on Valentine’s Day. In fact, astrologer Kyle Thomas previously told Bustle that what other signs might find “cheesy,” Taurus can appreciate.
As an earth sign ruled by love-focused Venus, a Taurus will fully lean into everything the day has to offer. They’ll have heart-shaped decor hanging all over their house, a stockpile of chocolate, and their reddest ‘fit ready to go. They’ll wine and dine their partner, but they’ll also expect the same love in return. Nothing’s too much for this sign, so do it up.
Cancer (June 20 – July 21)
As the hopeless romantics of the zodiac, it should come as no surprise to see Cancer on this list. This water sign looks for any excuse to celebrate their partner and friends, which is why they won’t hesitate to milk Valentine’s Day for all it’s worth.
Cancer is ruled by the moon, so don’t expect them to hold back when it comes to showing their emotions. They’ll wake up their partner with breakfast in bed, write love notes to friends and family, and post all day long on social media about how lucky they are to have found The One.
Leo (July 22 – Aug. 21)
Leo is one of the most expressive signs in the zodiac, so it makes sense why they’re drawn to a holiday that allows them to make bold proclamations of love. Catch them posting all social media or turning heads as they carry a dozen roses or a giant, heart-shaped balloon down the street.
This fire sign is ruled by the sun, which means they like to grab attention and stay in the spotlight, but it also means they have a lot of warmth to share with others. They’re the most likely to buy the heftiest teddy bear on the shelf or plan a scavenger hunt that takes their partner all over town. No gesture is too big or too bold for a Leo.
