EXCLUSIVE: Netflix has elevated two VP-level development executives, Michael Azzolino and Nne Ebong, with new or expanded responsibilities.

European-based Netflix Azzolino is moving back to the US to become VP, Scripted Drama Series Development. Starting his new job in July, Azzolino will report to Jinny Howe, Netflix’s VP of Drama Series. He will take on the responsibilities previously held by Howe before she was promoted a year ago to oversee the entire drama portfolio at the streamer. The high-profile job had been open for almost a year, with a number of executives outside of Netflix considered.

Ebong, who has been leading the Netflix studio team as VP, Overall Deals, is being upped to VP, Studio Scripted Series. Also reporting to Howe, she now oversees the creation and development of all in-house shows and franchises, adding projects based on Netflix-owned IP like the Roald Dahl catalog to her purview.

Howe reports to Peter Friedlander, VP of Scripted Series for the US and Canada.

For Azzolino, this marks a return to the U.S. drama series marketplace where the American executive worked for more than a decade and a half before he joined Netflix in 2018 as VP, Content, Benrlux/CEE/Turkey based in the Netherlands.

Prior to that he served as EVP Creative Affairs for ITV Studios America in Los Angeles for two years. He spent 11.5 years at Jerry Bruckheimer TV as SVP, where he worked on a slate of series that included Lucifer, a drama series that found a second life — and global success — on Netflix.

Azzolino began his career at NBC before joining WB Television Network and eventually transitioning to CBS Productions as Director, Drama Series.

Before joining Netflix in November 2020 Ebong was Creative Lead at independent studio wiip. Prior to that, she spent 12 years ar ABC Studios, rising to SVP of Drama Development.
