BBC Studios has named Seven. One Studios‘ Rose Hughes as its Senior Vice President for Global Format Sales.

Hughes will lead the sales strategy for unscripted and scripted formats at the BBC’s production and distribution wing, reporting into Jacob de Boer, EVP Global Entertainment.

The appointment marks a return to the BBC for Hughes, who was Senior Sales Executive, Formats Licensing for the Nordics and Benelux in a previous run. She’ll begin the new post in February ahead of the BBC Studios Showcase in London.

At ProSiebenSat.1-owned Seven. One Studios, she is VP of Sales, working with the likes of Married at First Sight creator Snowman and secured the second international order of Stranded on Honeymoon Island with Seven Network in Australia, along with a commission on BBC One in the UK. She also oversaw CBS’s deal to pilot a U.S. version of German scripted format Einstein.

Over a 15-year career, she has also worked Keshet International, where she was VP of Finished Programmes, Formats, Co-Productions and Pre-Buys. There she led format and tape sales in the UK, Scandinavia, the U.S., Canada and digital platforms, shopping the likes of Singletown to Denmark and Norway simultaneously and negotiated remakes of SVT’s Swedish drama Stockholm and NPO’s Yellow Peppers, which became The A Word on the BBC.

“I’m delighted to welcome Rose back to BBC Studios to lead our Global Format Sales, a pivotal role for driving commercial revenues of the business,” said de Boer. “Bringing with her a fantastic track record and a wealth of experience she is the ideal person to take our globally renowned unscripted and scripted formats to even more audiences around the world.”

BBC Studios’ annual flagship event, Showcase, takes place on February 24-25. New formats will include The Honesty Box, from Mettlemouse Entertainment and GroupM Motion Entertainment, Blackshore from River Pictures and Treasure Entertainment, and Kevin & Co Productions’ scripted comedy Homebound 3.0.

“Globally iconic brands like The 1% Club, Dancing with the Stars, The Great Bake Off, The Office and Ghosts showcase the incredible depth of BBC Studios’ catalogue,” said Hughes. “With world leading creators delivering a pipeline of exciting new formats such as radical reality dating format, The Honesty Box, anti-love story Homebound 3.0, and noir thriller Blackshore, it’s an inspiring time to return. I’m eager to expand beloved brands and bring innovative new formats to even wider audiences.”

Hughes’ hire comes soon after Deadline revealed former Banijay Rights exec Robin Pollok had joined Janet Brown’s L.A.-based BBC Studios Global Content Sales division.
