Proving that the United States and Denmark can still be friends, Copenhagen-based audio brand AIAIAI has once again teamed up with the LA-based creative collective and lifestyle brand Brain Dead for a reimagining of its minimalist AIAIAI Tracks headphones.
The limited edition collaboration brings the best of both brands’ worlds together, merging AIAIAI’s modular approach to products with Brain Dead’s design aesthetic. AIAIAI’s award-winning Tracks headphones are a super lightweight set of cans with a nostalgic minimalism not often seen today, featuring a thin yet sturdy frame that’s made from a single piece of curved aluminum. This frame, or “aluminum brace” as the Danish brand describes it, is parted down the middle on each side to form a kind of “rail system” that’s been designed to allow users to slide their ear cups into – a simple and adjustable three piece, two-way system.
The on-ear headphones are wired, not wireless, and come with a traditional 3.5mm angled stereo jack cable. Internally, they feature 40mm speaker drivers that AIAIAI says deliver “full-spectrum sound quality with a tight bass and detailed high-frequency notes”.
Brain Dead is known for its signature use of graphics and color, but its take on the Tracks headphones sees it apply an altogether more toned down approach opting to decorate the foam of the adjustable ear-cups in a simple golden yellow hue. This minimal approach follows suit on the outside of the ear-cups with branding kept to a small, printed graphic of Brain Dead’s famous head logo sat on top of a translucent plastic covering on each side. The headphones’ frame is unpainted aluminum and the cable comes colored in a natural, off-white shade.
Frederik Jorgeson, AIAIAI’s co-founder, called the collaboration “the perfect match for us,” adding that they were “so excited to be rekindling our partnership, after first working together back in 2018 to create another bespoke piece of audio technology.”
The AIAIAI x Brain Dead Tracks headphones are available now via HBX, and in store at both brands’ retail locations.
