Jenna Bush Hager and her Today guest host Kelsea Ballerini turned out to share quite a bit in common when the Grammy nominated singer stopped by the talk show Monday (Jan. 27). But Ballerini completely missed Bush Hager’s Beverly Hills 90210 reference during a hilarious moment on the broadcast.

The co-hosts were bonding over their preference for breakup songs over love songs when Bush Hager admitted, “Even though I haven’t been in a breakup in 20 years, I still love [R.E.M.’s song] “Everybody Hurts” because i think back to that 90210 episode, remember?”

Ballerini did not understand the reference, probably because the original Beverly Hills 90210 series premiered in 1990, three years before she was born.

“No? ‘Cause you’re young,” Bush Hager commented. She then passionately explained why the iconic song reminded her of the episode where “Brenda Walsh got dumped by Dylan.”

Though Ballerini didn’t understand the reference, she commented, “This was a moment, this impacted you deeply.”

“Yeah it surely did, you’ve got to watch it if you haven’t watched 90210. It’s a great watch,” Bush Hager said.

Ballerini is the latest guest host to visit Today With Jenna & Friends, kicking off a music-filled week on the show ahead of the Grammy Awards. Jordin Sparks, Ciara and Wynonna Judd will also be joining Bush Hager this week.

This is on the heels of Scarlett Johansson‘s memorable week-long run on the show. Johansson made it clear that she would be interested in staying full-time, telling Bush Hager on the air that this was her “dream job.”

“It’s my favorite job that I’ve ever had,” she said. “I have to say this really fills my cup. I absolutely have to come back if you’ll have me.”

Today with Jenna & Friends airs on weekdays at 10/9c on NBC.
