The Memphis Grizzlies have completely turned things around this season after an injury-riddled year last year. Memphis has taken its place back toward the top of the Western Conference standings and could make a run for a title.
With the NBA trade deadline coming up, we could see the Grizzlies go all-in on a chance to chase a title. Memphis has some enticing pieces to work with, giving them a potential advantage heading toward the trade deadline.
In this new trade idea, the Grizzlies land an All-Star talent to give themselves a better chance to win this season. The deal would be between Memphis and the New Orleans Pelicans, landing Brandon Ingram with the Grizzlies.
Using the Spotrac trade machine and abiding by the new CBA restrictions in place, here is what a deal could look like:
Grizzlies receive: Brandon Ingram
Pelicans receive: Marcus Smart, John Konchar, Santi Aldama, and a 2025 first-round draft pick
Why Grizzlies do this
Memphis has been linked to the trade talk involving star Jimmy Butler but Butler hasn’t reciprocated the interest. However, with this thought process, the Grizzlies could be in line to make a major addition.
Next to Butler, Ingram is one of the biggest names on the open market. Memphis could bring him in to compliment stars Ja Morant, Jaren Jackson Jr., and Desmond Bane.
The Grizzlies would become one of the scariest teams in the entire NBA with a deal like this and it could push forward in terms of title contention. Ingram could help put this team over the top and they could extend him in the offseason.
Why Pelicans do this
The Pelicans have been looking to move Ingram since the summer and this deal could benefit them greatly. Ingram will be a free agent and so far, New Orleans has shown no interest in keeping him around long-term.
The Pelicans would get a solid addition in Smart and they could either keep him for the rotation or flip him down the line. The team would also land an additional draft pick, helping them for the upcoming strong draft class.
This is probably one of the better deals that New Orleans would get for Ingram so if this is on the table, the Pelicans should accept.
