EXCLUSIVE: Ulrich Thomsen (Counterpart, The Blacklist) has been tapped to recur in the HBO, WBTV and DC Studios series Lanterns as DC supervillain Sinestro.
The series follows new recruit John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) and Lantern legend Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler), two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.
Sinestro is a former Green Lantern who turned rogue and is described as ruthless yet undeniably charming. Sinestro’s manipulative nature drives his enduring obsession with his former mentee, Hal Jordan. Sinestro was created by John Broome and Gil Kane and first appeared in the comic book Green Lantern, Volume 2, #56 released in 1961.
The previously announced cast also includes Kelly Macdonald as Sheriff Kerry; Garret Dillahunt as modern cowboy William Macon; and Poorna Jagannathan as Zoe, a potential love interest for John.

Lanterns is co-written by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof and Tom King. The first two episodes are directed by James Hawes. The series is executive produced by Mundy, Lindelof, King and Hawes. Ron Schmidt also serves as executive producer. Based on the DC comic Green Lantern. The series hails from HBO in association with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios.
Thomsen is well-known for playing Kai Proctor in the series Banshee for Cinemax. The Danish actor recently starred in the critically acclaimed Scandinavian series Trom. Additionally, he recurred in NBC’s The Blacklist, the Starz drama Counterpart and HBO’s The Young Pope. Thomsen will next be seen in Uwe Boll’s thriller feature Run opposite Amanda Plummer. Thomsen is represented by Greene Talent, Link Entertainment and Accelerate.
