Platinum Games today revealed its newest game, Ninja Gaiden 4, the latest game in the legendary action series. It’s making the game in partnership with the series’ longtime developer, Team Ninja. They plan to release the new game in fall 2025 on Xbox, PC, Game Pass, and PlayStation 5. Team Ninja also announced the launch of Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, a remake of the second game in the series, a remake that is currently available on Xbox Game Pass.
Ninja Gaiden 4 stars new protagonist, Yakumo, a young ninja who’s battling his way through a futuristic, cyberpunk-flavored Tokyo that’s being overshadowed by the cult of the Dark Dragon. He’ll eventually come into conflict with the series’ longtime main character, Ryu Hayabusa, who’s also a playable character. According to Team Ninja, its collaboration with Platinum Games has created gameplay that is fast-paced but still honors the series’ distinctive challenge.
Before the Direct aired, Xbox teased that the fourth game to be shown would be a new title, not yet announced or spoken about. The last game in the series, not counting the 2014 spin-off Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z, was Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge, an updated re-release of Ninja Gaiden 3 released on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii U.
Team Ninja also revealed details about Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, a remake of the second game built in Unreal Engine 5. According to the developer, this is the definitive edition of the game, similar to Ninja Gaiden Black. It was created using feedback from fans on the version of the game that appeared in the Ninja Gaiden Master Collection (which itself was an altered version of the original called Ninja Gaiden 2 Sigma). It’s available to play now on Xbox Game Pass.
