The Night Agent Season 2 Ending Explained: What Will The Night Agent Season 3 Be About?
If you’re looking for a detailed recap of The Night Agent’s Season 2 finale, Decider has you covered. But for the purposes of Season 3 predictions, here are the major storylines you need to remember.
After Peter and Rose saved Manhattan from a chemical weapon terror attack, Peter turned himself in and confessed to stealing classified intel from the UN for Jacob Monroe in exchange for information on the chemical weapons lab and Rose’s whereabouts. What exactly did Peter steal that was so valuable? Proof that Knox, a presidential candidate, spearheaded the classified chemical weapons program Foxglove and oversaw the sale of weapons to Viktor Bala when he was CIA director.
We followed Monroe backstage at what appeared to be a presidential rally, where Season 1’s Chelsea Arrington (Fola Evans-Akingbola) double checked his briefcase to ensure he posed no threat. While he may not have been carrying a weapon, he was carrying the drive that Peter swiped, which he handed over to Governor Hagan. We learned that for eight years and three elections, Monroe has been helping Hagan eliminate his competition, but the latest move was deemed his “magnum opus.”
The contents of the drive were so damning that Knox withdrew from the race two weeks before the general election. “Governor Hagan’s virtually guaranteed the presidency now,” Catherine told Peter. “You aided and abetted in the swinging of the presidential election.” As the two walked in front of the White House, Catherine finally came clean with Peter and revealed she worked one of the biggest Night Actions to date: finding the mole in the Pentagon breach. She told Peter she investigated his father and watched him become a double agent so that if the truth ever got out, his son would know he did what he could to atone for his mistakes. She offered Peter the same second chance, and he agreed to a new mission so top secret it’s separate from Night Action.
“There’s a strong possibility that this broker is working with or about to control a sitting president and that every piece of classified intelligence that crosses the resolute desk is up for sale to the highest bidder. We need you to determine the exact nature of their relationship,” she explained. “…He still believes he owns you, so we’re gonna let him. There’s going to be a day when he will call on you for a favor. or to give orders, and when he does I want you to do exactly as he asks. Gain his trust, and we’ll cover every snake on his payroll and then expose. Destroy.”
“You already know I’m in,” Peter said. Before the end credits roll, he gets his phone back to wait for the call and gazes out at the White House, wondering if this next mission will lead all the way up to the Oval Office again. When we last saw Rose, she had moved back to California, got a major promotion at work, and had no clue what Peter was up to. So have we seen the last of her? Or will the two find their way back to each other in Season 3? What new adventures await Peter? And what’s taking him to Istanbul? We can’t wait to find out.
