All My Children actor Colin Egglesfield announced he has once again been diagnosed with cancer.
Egglesfield shared a statement on social media recounting his recent cancer journey alongside images of himself recovering post-surgery in the hospital.
“The beginning to this year hasn’t been the easiest… this is another opportunity to decide who I choose to be in the face of uncertainty and challenges in my most recent cancer diagnosis,” he wrote.
The actor explained that he “elected to be proactive and have surgery” after the prostate cancer was detected early. Egglesfield thanked his doctors at the City of Hope Cancer Center in Phoenix, Arizona, for “supporting” him through “this scary time.”
“Thank you to everyone else who has supported me and extended your well wishes!” Egglesfield added. “I feel it and each day I’m getting healthier and stronger. I’m still a bit sore but I’m making progress and am determined to come back stronger and healthier than ever especially with the help of my sexy walker :).”
He also shared a video message on Jan. 22 to offer an update to fans and supporters about his recent surgery, which his doctors said “went really well.”
Egglesfield became emotional at one point in the video as he admitted, “I’ve had some pretty emotional conversations over the past few weeks and it still gets me a little emotional talking about it because cancer and any health experience is scary. It’s never something that you plan for, never anything that you expect.”
The actor was previously diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2006. One year after having the tumor removed, doctors learned that the cancer had spread to the other testicle as well, per Fox News.
Many may recognize Egglesfield from his time on All My Children playing Joshua Madden, a role he took over from Scott Kinworthy, until Madden was killed off the show in 2009 when he attempted to rob a casino.
Egglesfield also played the main love interest in the 2011 romcom Something Borrowed, starring Kate Hudson, Ginnifer Goodwin, and John Krasinski.
But his 25-year-long career has taken him across several classic films and television series, including Melrose Place, Hawaii Five-0, Chicago Fire, Drop Dead Diva, and several more.
Egglesfield urged his supporters on social media to get checked regularly and advocate for themselves.
“Fellas, be sure to get your PSA checked regularly. It saved my life!” he wrote.
