gérald genta has unveiled the “Gentissima Oursin Fire Opal” at LVMH Watch Week. This limited-edition timepiece is the fourth in the Gentissima Oursin series, epitomizing the brand’s dedication to pushing horological boundaries while paying homage to the visionary legacy of Gérald Genta.
The watch’s design is a tribute to fire opals, gems revered for their fiery hues and origins in Mexico’s volcanic landscapes. These vibrant stones, individually screwed into a yellow gold 3N case, represent warmth and vitality. Encircling a 36.5mm diameter case with 137 meticulously placed fire opals, the design embodies elegance, creativity and a timeless connection to nature.
At the heart of the watch lies an orange cornelian dial, accentuated by yellow gold markers. This aesthetic celebrates Genta’s passion for organic colors and light interplay in gemstones. A faceted crystal and subtly octagonal edges reflect his signature design ethos. The watch is powered by the GG-005 Zenith Elite automatic movement, enhanced with a bespoke oscillating mass in 18-karat yellow gold, offering a 50-hour power reserve.
Artistic Director Matthieu Hegi shared, “The Oursin Fire Opal represents the sublimation of the unexpected into art, honoring Mr. Genta’s passion for beauty and innovation.”
The Gentissima Oursin collection began in Corsica in 1994, inspired by a sea urchin’s spiny form. Decades later, the Fire Opal iteration continues this intimate narrative, blending rarity, artistry and technical excellence. This luminous watch is slated for release in May 2025, with details on pricing yet to be shared at the time of writing. Stay tuned for more LVMH Watch Week updates here.
