Jimmy Kimmel celebrated President Trump’s inauguration by roasting the new president for pardoning several convicted January 6 insurrectionists, but not without also taking a couple of jabs at President Joe Biden on his final day in office.
On Live, Kimmel pointed out the Republicans’ double standard when it comes to the presidency after Trump signed “a stack of executive orders” and issued several pardons during his inauguration.
“Remember how angry Republicans used to get when the Democrat president issued an executive order? Neither do they,” Kimmel quipped.
He added, “Trump also signed pardons for those convicted of storming the Capitol January 6— 1,500 of them. He did this in front of a big cheering crowd. The same crowd he criticized Joe Biden for pardoning his family in front of.”
Kimmel then cracked a rather shocking joke about the former president. “Biden’s pardonees include Dr. Fauci, General Milley, Liz Cheney, members of his family, and Diddy, which was a surprise,” he said. Diddy is currently being held on racketeering and sex trafficking charges.
“I guess Uncle Joe loves a freak off, I don’t know,” he added, earning plenty of laugher from the Live audience.
For the record, Biden did not pardon Diddy. He did, however, pardon Dr. Fauci, Gen. Milley, and the House committee that investigated the Jan. 6 insurrection to protect them against Trump, per the Associated Press.
But one person was noticeably missing from Biden’s list of preemptive pardons: Kimmel himself.
“Biden did not pre-emptively pardon any talk show hosts this morning, which many found disappointing,” he joked.
Needless to say, Kimmel, who has long been a vocal Trump critic, was not looking forward to Trump’s inauguration. But he told the Live audience his day got off to a fitting, if rough, start.
“Our son got into our bed early in the morning and peed in the bed. So we got out of bed and the dog had pooped in the hallway and peed on the wall,” he said. “And that was just an appetizer for the rest of the day, really.”
