Carrie Underwood performed an a cappella rendition of “America the Beautiful” following technical difficulties during President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration Monday, clad in a simple, sleeveless dove gray draped dress.
She finished her look with diamond drop earrings, a sparkling bracelet and several rings.
The “Before He Cheats” singer confirmed last week that she’d be taking the stage during Trump’s swearing-in — a decision that proved polarizing, as she’d previously kept her political views private.
“I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event,” Underwood shared in a statement at the time.
“I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.”
In contrast to her understated fashion choice for today’s festivities, the “American Idol” winner-turned-judge is known for her maximalist stage looks, which often involve sequins, sparkly fringe and sculptural ruffles.
Most recently, Underwood rang in 2025 by singing a medley of hits on “Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve with Ryan Seacrest,” beginning her performance in a black velvet cloak with intricate gold beadwork and later changing into a silver sequined pantsuit topped with a fuchsia tinsel jacket.
And for a performance in Central Park on “Good Morning America” in August, she let her famous legs take center stage in denim hot pants and cowboy boots paired with a floral sequined jacket and bejeweled belt.
“Regardless of what is required, she can meet moments that seem to be (as dissimilar as) apples and oranges,” the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s Angela Stefano Zimmer said of Underwood’s style approach during a Nashville Fashion Week panel in September, per the Tennesseean.
Others slated to perform during today’s inaugural events include Jason Aldean, Rascal Flatts, Billy Ray Cyrus, Kid Rock and more.
