Bose has introduced a quartet Spring-ready new colorways in its clip-on Ultra Open Earbuds, a colorful new foursome to wish away the gloomy winter grays.
Released in February last year, Bose’s first attempt at open earbuds have proved popular for the close-to-Boston-based brand. Designed as an alternative to the more traditional in-ear buds most people have, they clip-on to and attach to your ears like personal mini speakers, as opposed to sitting inside your ear canal. This makes them ideal for people who want a sort of natural “transparency mode”, immersing the user in the environmental sounds around them because they do not block outside noise.
The earbuds are incredibly light and comfortable, with their clip-on design making them easy to use over long use periods – in fact, the clamping pressure of the earbuds against your ear is so weak that it’s easy to forget you’re wearing them. Additionally, unlike in-ear models that sit inside your ear canal, the open earbuds alleviate the uncomfortable sense of pressure that can develop when using some noise cancelling earbuds.
Users can expect up to 7.5 hours of battery life per charge (with up to 19 hours additional hours stored in the charging case) and the buds are Bluetooth 5.3 compatible (Android users can take advantage of Google Fast Pair). They feature Snapdragon’s Sound Technology Suite and the latest Qualcomm aptX Adaptive codec for hi-res audio streaming.
The original Bose Ultra Open Earbuds launched last year were touted by the brand as blurring the lines between a fashion accessory and wearable tech – indeed, the very first one they launched with in collaboration with Kith – and the four new colorways go someway to bolstering this. Bose says its new options – “Sunset Iridescent”, “Carbon Blue”, “Chilled Lilac”, and “Sandstone” – are “designed to make a statement.”
