A 36 year-old Manhattan man was arrested in Miami Thursday morning for allegedly beating two homeless people to death and injuring two others in what police called a case of “unprovoked violence.”

Brenton Clarke allegedly launched his bloody rampage at around 6 p.m., using a metal rod to batter the four victims, including a homeless man who was sleeping on the sidewalk, authorities said.

Two of the victims succumbed to their injuries, while two others were seriously injured and taken to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital, according to police.

“There were several individuals attacked, all of them homeless,” said Miami police Chief Manny Morales in a Thursday press conference.

Clarke allegedly also stole the belongings from the man who had been asleep.

After the horrific and random attacks, a witness armed with a weapon confronted Clarke, leading him to run away before being caught by police officers.

Clarke was charged with two counts of first degree murder and one count of armed robbery with a deadly weapon.

According to Morales, Clarke does not have any criminal history in Miami, but does have “some minor criminal run-ins with police in up in New York.”

Clarke was ordered to be held without bond and will appear before a division judge on Tuesday, according to CBS News Miami.
