Paramount+ has canceled the Frasier revival after two seasons, leaving the show’s producer CBS Studios to shop it to other networks and streaming platforms, according to multiple entertainment outlets.
Newsweek has reached out to Paramount+ and CBS Studios via email for comment on Saturday.
The Context
Frasier, a spin-off of the sitcom Cheers that ran from 1993 to 2004, was revived in October 2023 with actor Kelsey Grammer reprising his role as Dr. Frasier Crane. In the original series, Crane returns to his hometown of Seattle to work as a psychiatrist on a radio show. In the revival, Crane ventures off to a different city “with new challenges to face, new relationships to forge, and an old dream or two to finally fulfill,” according to the show’s summary on IMDb. The revival got three Emmy nominations but didn’t win any of the awards.

After two seasons, Paramount+ decided to cancel the sitcom, but the series may be kept alive if another network or streaming platform picks it up.
Deadline reported that Amazon‘s Prime Video or Hulu could pick up the show. Both streaming platforms carry Frasier‘s original run. Meanwhile, Variety suggested that NBC, which aired the original series, could pick up the revival as well.
However, Deadline and Variety thought it doubtful that CBS would pick up the revival as they are already stocked up on comedy shows both currently running and in the making.

Frasier star Kelsey Grammer told Variety in November 2023: “I think we should go to another 100 episodes at least. There’s enough groundwork laid between these human beings; they are wonderful characters. I want to see where they go. And I want to see what happens to Frasier.”
Jackson Murphy, an Emmy-winning film critic and producer, reacted to the cancellation of the Frasier revival on X, formerly Twitter, on Friday, writing, “There was a great deal of care put into the writing, humor and emotion (storylines, situations and appearances) to please fans of the original series—and Kelsey Grammer absolutely on his A-game.”
The Hollywood Outsider, an award-winning weekly film and TV podcast, wrote on X on Saturday, “The producers say they’ll shop it around, but it seems like this might be the last broadcast from the infamous shrink. Maybe he should bounce to Apple TV+ and hang out with Harrison Ford?”
Ford plays a therapist in the Apple TV+ series Shrinking.

The fate of the Frasier revival is yet to be known, but fans can still watch the first and second seasons of the revival and the original series on Paramount+.
