In an interview with the New York Times, De Niro revealed that Barbuda has a special place in his heart, “I always thought it was something special. And I said, ‘This is the spot if we can get it.’” The first step in the development plan was establishing the Nobu Barbuda restaurant in 2020. The pinnacle of luxury, the restaurant has always been exclusive to day-trippers from neighbouring islands, often arriving via helicopter or boat. Nobu Barbuda’s menu serves up classics like black cod with miso as well as additions made with local ingredients like Barbuda lobster.
