Now that Cameron Diaz is back in action, she’s considering revisiting one of her most beloved roles.

When asked if she’d reunite with Jim Carrey for a sequel to their 1994 superhero comedy film The Mask, the 4x Golden Globe nominee seemed ready to reprise her role as lounge performer Tina Carlyle.

“If Jim’s on board, I mean, I’ve been riding those coattails from day one,” Diaz joked to Access Hollywood while promoting her acting comeback in Back in Action, now streaming on Netflix.

Carrey previously addressed the possibility of masking up as Stanley Ipkiss once again, following his own return to the screen. “Oh gosh, you know, it has to be the right idea,” he told ComicBook.com last month. “If somebody had the right idea, I guess… It’s not really about the money. I joke about the money… But I never know. You can’t be definite about these things.”

The 2x Golden Globe winner added, “I said I’d like to retire, but I think I was talking more about power-resting. Because as soon as a good idea comes your way, or a group of people that you really enjoyed working with and stuff, it just – things tend to change.”

Based on the Dark Horse Comic, The Mask starred Carrey as down-on-his-luck bank employee Stanley, who becomes possessed with the spirit of trickster god Loki and tears up the town at night after putting on a mysterious mask he found in the bay.

Alan Cumming and Jamie Kennedy starred in the 2005 standalone sequel Son of the Mask, which was a critical and commercial flop. And back in 2014, comic book creator Mike Richardson discussed the future of the franchise.

“We’ve been talking about reviving The Mask, both in film and in comics,” he told CBR. “We’ve had a couple of false starts. The Mask has become something bigger than when we started.”
