The Writers Guild of America announced its feature-film nominations on Wednesday, furthering the awards-season momentum enjoyed by “Anora,” “Wicked” and “A Complete Unknown.” The announcement was delayed a week because of continuing wildfires in Los Angeles.

Because the organization has narrow requirements for eligibility that exclude films not written under the auspices of the WGA or its sister guilds, a wide swath of top contenders could not be nominated Wednesday.

Those films include “The Brutalist,” “Conclave,” “Emilia Pérez,” and “The Substance,” all of which are expected to be significant Oscar players. Other ineligible contenders include “Sing Sing,” “A Different Man,” “Hard Truths,” “Inside Out 2” and “The Wild Robot.”

How the nominated films fare at the Oscars will be clearer next Thursday, when the Oscar nominations are scheduled to be announced.

Winners of the WGA Awards will be announced during a ceremony on Feb. 15. Here are the film categories. For the complete list of nominations, including television and animation categories, go to wga.org.
