Get your Dalgona cookies ready for streaming night. Netflix announced that Squid Game Season 3 will be released in 2025. This is a much quicker turnaround than Season 2, which dropped three years after the first season.
The news was announced on January 1 with a teaser on Netflixâs X account. The video introduces a new character named Chul-su, who director Hwang Dong-hyuk said is âred light, green lightâ doll Young-heeâs boyfriend.
“I wrote Seasons 2 and 3 back-to-back,” Dong-hyuk told The Hollywood Reporter. “We filmed them back-to-back, and it’s currently in post.”
Season 3 comes off the heels of a highly successful Season 2 release on December 26. Squid Game Season 2 amassed 12.6 million views in its first eleven days, the most of any show in that amount of time in Netflix history.
Hereâs everything you need to know about the upcoming season.
What is Squid Game Season 3 about?
Season 3 will resume Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae)âs pursuit to take down the Front Man and unveil his true identity.
In Season 2, Gi-hun returns to the games, but heâs focused on his adversary rather than the billions of dollars he could win. He doesnât know that the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) is undercover as Player 001 and pretending to be Young-il. Gi-hun and Young-il become friends throughout the games and even work together. However, their close relationship doesnât last long. In the finale, Young-il assumes the role of Front Man again and kills Gi-hunâs friend, Park Jung-bae (Lee Seo-hwan).
When does Squid Game Season 3 come out?
No specific date has been announced yet for Season 3. However, it will most likely drop around June 27, 2025, since that date was written in a now-deleted video on the Netflix Korea YouTube page.
