It’s fair to say that Samsung was pretty busy at this year’s CES showcase. The South Korean brand made multiple announcements across its various product portfolios, from AI to audio, lifestyle to gaming and beyond – Samsung seemingly had something for everyone.
But, amongst it all, it’s Samsung’s monitor line-up for 2025 that stands out, both for how interesting and innovative it is. Arriving in this year’s line-up are five new models across its Smart, Odyssey and ViewFinity ranges, including what it calls two “industry-firsts.”
Samsung’s Odyssey monitors have consistently ranked amongst the best gaming monitors money can buy in recent years and the latest additions to its line-up include the OLED G6 and OLED G8, each of which breaks new ground in its own way.
The OLED G6 is a blisteringly fast 32-inch monitor that brings with it an innovation in screen technology that Samsung says “redefines speed as the first-ever OLED screen with a 500Hz refresh rate.” The monitor features a QHD screen resolution (2,560 by 1,440 pixels) and, although not 4K, supports both AMD’s FreeSync and NVIDIA’s G-Sync technologies, promising to deliver the smoothest gameplay performance from the most demanding games.
Smaller but no less innovative, Samsung’s new OLED G8 is a 4K display that packs 8 million pixels into a beautifully crisp, highly detailed 27-inch screen, delivering a lot of monitor in a more accessible, compact form factor. The tech giant also claims its new model is also the world’s first 4K OLED monitor in its size.
Both models have a practically unnoticeable 0.03ms response time that Samsung says results in “smooth visuals and crisp gameplay.” They also both feature VESA DisplayHDR True Black 4004 technology for the blackest of blacks and the richest possible dark colors, with no bloom or color bleed. Lastly, both screens are glare free, meaning gamers will see less reflections and distracting light whilst gaming.
The third monitor in the new Odyssey trio is the Odyssey 3D – a 27-inch gaming screen that can convert 2D content into 3D content. It uses AI to “analyze and convert” on-screen video, giving gamers a new way to experience their favorite titles.
Samsung has also updates its smart monitor range introducing the appropriately named Smart Monitor M9. And the brand is touting yet another industry-first with the new M9, claiming that it is the first monitor to feature AI integrated directly on the device. This means that – as opposed to AI in the cloud – the monitor will respond much faster to any actions, commands or requests that use its AI engine. One of the M9’s more interesting AI features is its ability to recognize the genre of game being played, before automatically adjusting its picture settings to best suit it. Another is what Samsung calls 4K AI Upscaling Pro, wherein the monitor taps into its neural network to automatically make low resolution content look better.
And, lastly, Samsung has updated its ViewFinity line-up with the introduction of the ViewFinity S8, claiming its new 37-inch monitor is “the largest 16:9 4K monitor to date.”
Release date and pricing information has yet to be revealed by the brand, but stay tuned for updates as we get them.
