An iconic pop star is coming to Fortnite — and no, I’m not talking about Ariana Grande (or even Lady Gaga, for that matter). Hatsune Miku, the virtual musician and queen of Vocaloids, will be the featured artist of Fortnite Festival Season 7.
Developer Epic Games announced the collaboration Monday in a post on the official Fortnite blog. The Hatsune Miku and Fortnite Festival collaboration will launch on Jan. 14 and run until April 8. The promotion will bring several Miku-themed items to the Fortnite Shop and the Music Pass, the special battle pass for Fortnite Festival.
Highlights of cosmetic items coming to the Music Pass include two different Hatsune Miku outfits: Neko Hatsune Miku Outfit and the Brite Hatsune Miku Style. The Neko gives Miku adorable pink cat ears, whereas the Brite style is inspired by the Brite Bomber and Fortnite Battle Royale’s Supply Llama. The Music Pass will be available to purchase individually for 1,400 V-Bucks or through the Fortnite Crew subscription.
If you’re not into leveling up a battle pass, other Miku-themed items will be available to buy in bundles in the Item Shop. The main one will include Miku in her standard outfit, along with other cosmetic items like themed back bling and Emotes. Best of all: It has a jam track for “Miku” by Anamanaguchi and Miku, so you can rock out to her anthem.
Since her initial debut in 2007, electronic artists from across the globe have used the generated voice known as Hatsune Miku to allow her to perform in their songs. The character has grown into a globally popular artist who has toured the U.S. and performed at Coachella. She’s also inspired a meme and viral internet trend or two, and collaborated with Pokémon and Magic: The Gathering.
