As fact-checking takes a hit on social media, a very reliable source is shooting down rumors of behind-the-scenes trouble on A Simple Favor 2.

Director Paul Feig recently responded to a claim that the sequel has been shelved amid an alleged feud between stars Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively, clarifying that the film is “coming out soon” and it’s “awesome.”

“This is total BS. Sorry,” he wrote on X, quoting the report. “The movie is finished and coming out soon. Don’t believe anything you read on social media these days.”

After the original poster pushed back, asking why Amazon Studios hasn’t set a release date after filming wrapped last spring.

“My friend, it’s called post production, which generally takes over half a year at least when you factor in editing, scoring, special effects, sound mixing, close captioning and all the technical quality control that has to be done,” wrote Feig. “Our post schedule always had us finishing everything by mid-January. Movies don’t come out the second they’re finished because the studio spends the previous year deciding the best date to release it. We’ve always planned on something in the spring/summer of this year. That’s how movies work. I hope this helps.”

Feig raved in another post, “The movie is awesome, and Blake and Anna turn in amazing performances. I can’t wait for you all to see it. Stay tuned for more details. Simple Favor 2 is coming soon!”

After Amazon Studios and Lionsgate previously announced the sequel in 2022, bringing back Feig, Kendrick and Lively, filming kicked off this spring, with original cast members Henry Golding, Andrew Rannells, Bashir Salahuddin, Joshua Satine, Ian Ho and Kelly McCormack also returning.

In the sequel, Stephanie Smothers (Kendrick) and Emily Nelson (Lively) head to the beautiful island of Capri, Italy, for Emily’s extravagant wedding to a rich Italian businessman. Along with the glamorous guests, expect murder and betrayal to RSVP for a wedding with more twists and turns than the road from the Marina Grande to the Capri town square.

The first movie, which grossed $97 million off a $20 million budget, follows widowed mommy blogger Stephanie, who befriends glamorous working mom Emily. When Emily drops off her son and goes missing, Stephanie forms her own investigation into her friend’s mysterious past.
