The San Francisco Giants need to make a few more moves to continue closing the gap on the Los Angeles Dodgers in the loaded National League West. At this point, the most important moves to make would likely be huge trades.
R.J. Anderson of CBS Sports recently suggested the Giants could look to trade young infielder Marco Luciano to capitalize on his value while he’s still young. Luciano is partially blocked from seeing regular big-league action in San Francisco.
“Indeed, San Francisco has made long-term commitments at third base (Matt Chapman) and shortstop (Willy Adames) since last summer,” Anderson wrote. “That leaves Luciano with two possible destinations: another part of the diamond, or another organization entirely.
“Seeing as how Luciano still has some marketable attributes — he’s young (23) and he possesses undeniable strength and feel for the strike zone — I could see the Giants moving him in exchange for a player with a more clear fit on their roster.”
One of the most likely fits for Luciano would be sending him to the Seattle Mariners.
Seattle needs to add hitters any way it can. Adding Luciano would give the M’s a young infielder with a lot of potential. The young Giants infielder would have no issue finding at bats with the Mariners.
The Mariners could ship a young pitcher like Emerson Hancock to the Giants in exchange for Luciano and a prospect or two. It truly could be a match made in heaven.
