Sony won’t be holding the Jan. 13 Hollywood premiere for its upcoming Keke Palmer and SZA R-rated comedy One of Them Days as L.A.’s wildfires rage on.
The studio moved the title to the 4-day MLK weekend corridor as 95% colleges are on break that weekend, not to mention there haven’t been any comedies on the schedule for quite some time. One of Them Days is facing off against Universal/Blumhouse’s Wolfman and Paramount’s expansion of September 5 next weekend.
Lawrence Lamont directed One of Them Days which follows best friends and roommates Dreux (Keke Palmer) and Alyssa (SZA) who are about to have…one of them days. When they discover Alyssa’s boyfriend (Joshua David Neal) has blown their rent money, the duo finds themselves going to extremes in a comical race against the clock to avoid eviction and keep their friendship intact.
One of Them Days was written by Syreeta Singleton. Producers are Issa Rae, Deniese Davis, Sara Rastogi, James Lopez and Poppy Hanks. EPs are Palmer, Sharon Palmer, Jeff Valeri and Charles D. King. Maude Apatow, Lil Rel Howery, Janelle James and Katt Williams also star.

Sony has been trying to resuscitate pure R-rated comedies at the box office in recent years; a once lucrative cinema genre which has jettisoned to streaming. Sony had the R-rated summer 2023 Jennifer Lawrence comedy, No Hard Feelings, which opened to $15M and legged out to $50M at the domestic box office.
A slew of events have cancelled due to the Pacific Palisades fire, i.e. the premieres for Wolf Man, Amazon MGM Studios’ Unstoppable, and Paramount’s Better Man, while others have postponed, i.e. the Oscar nominations and the Critics Choice Awards (from this Sunday to Jan. 26).
