Jamie Lee Curtis got emotional as she discussed the L.A. fires during her appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night, and this morning pledged $1 million to start a fund to help her devastated hometown.

In an Instagram post today, Curtis write, “As the fire still rages on and @calfire @losangelesfiredepartment and all the available first responders and agencies involved in fighting fire and saving lives are still hard at work and neighbors and friends are banding together to save each other, my husband and I and our children have pledged $1 million from our Family Foundation to start a fund of support for our great city and state and the great people who live and love there. I’m in communication with Governor Newsom and Mayor Bass and Senator Schiff as to where those funds need to be directed for the most impact.”

Curtis is married to actor and director Christopher Guest, and they have two daughters.

On Wednesday’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Curtis got emotional as the audience greeted her with great enthusiasm. Earlier, she had posted on Instagram that while her family was safe, “My community and possibly my home is on fire.”

“I’m literally just about to cry,” Curtis said as Fallon offered his condolences. “Mostly because of that beautiful welcome.”

Curtis continued, “As you know where I live is on fire right now. Literally the entire city of the Pacific Palisades is burning…I flew here [to New York City] last night. I was on the plane, started getting texts and it’s [f***ing] gnarly, you guys.

“It’s just a catastrophe in Southern California,” she continued. “Obviously there have been horrific fires in many places, this is literally where I live. Everything – the market I shop in, the schools my kids go to, and many, many, many, many, many friends now have lost their homes.”

Curtis told Fallon that she planned to fly back to L.A. on Thursday morning to be with her family and help her friends.

The Oscar-winning Everything Everywhere All At Once actor urged viewers, “Do anything you can. Anything in your community to help people. Whether you need it or not now, you will need it. Give blood, donate, whatever you can do, animal shelters.”

Curtis, who described herself as an American Red Cross ambassador, advised people who might need “to flee” to prepare an emergency kit with their “prescription glasses, medicines, dog food, baby formula, all the things you’ll need…”
