Julianne Moore was newly pregnant and feeling it when she shot the iconic bowling dance scene in The Big Lebowski.
The Oscar-winning actress appeared on this morning’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, where she remembered filming the 1998 comedy during a game of “Behind the Scenes.”
“I was pregnant with my son. I was so sick that day,” she said, pointing to a photo of herself dancing in a gold dress with Jeff Bridges. “I was so nauseous. I could barely move. That dress was really solid [and] made from styrofoam.”
Moore reenacted how difficult it was for her to move around in the costume, before adding, “I was just unbelievably sick and I couldn’t tell anyone I was pregnant because I didn’t want them to know.”
Host Drew Barrymore noted that that was “the last outfit you want to be in” while pregnant, to which Moore replied, “It was awful.”
However, the star had nothing but fond memories of her time working with Bridges.
“Jeff is such an extraordinary person. He’s so funny. He’s so generous,” she said. “I couldn’t look him in the eye without laughing. I’d have to look at his mouth while he was acting because if I saw his eyes, I would start to laugh. Or I would look just beyond him.”
Moore also looked back on her role as Amber Waves in Boogie Nights, which earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
“I read that script and I went, ‘Oh, my God,’” she said. “I was the first person attached to that movie. Because it was on the page, it was just on the page. It was so incredibly well written.”
The Drew Barrymore Show airs on weekdays on CBS. You can check the website for local airtimes.
