Antisemitic hate crimes exploded across the Big Apple last year, with 345 anti-Jewish incidents reported, according to troubling NYPD data released this week.
Jews were the targets a staggering 54% of the time — more than all other minority groups combined — during 2024 amid the ongoing bloodshed in the Israel-Hamas war and pro-Palestinian protests erupting across New York City.
“I’m very scared about the amount of people that hate me in the city,” Jonathan Lederer, 23, a Jewish Columbia University student who was among the victims, told The Post.
“I’m shocked that we as a society have even gotten to this point.”
Lederer was attacked twice in 2024, most recently in December when anti-Israel protester Tarek Bazrouk allegedly punched him in the face after ranting about Hitler and Nazis.
The number of anti-Jewish offenses counted last year marked a 7% increase from 2023, when 323 such crimes were reported to the NYPD, the data shows.
Reported hate crimes overall were down by 4%, with 641 tallied last year compared to 671 in 2023, according to the police stats.
Muslims were targeted in 43 crimes reported in 2024, a 65% surge from the previous year, according to the data.
Lederer placed the blame on President Biden, arguing he’s not done enough to “crack down” on antisemitism.
“A big factor is the Biden administration’s unwillingness to do anything and crack down on this hatred,” Lederer said.
“There are students supporting terrorism on campus with foreign visas; they should have been deported,” he added.
“You have outside countries trying to influence our culture and the presidential administration should have done something about it.”
Bronx Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY), who may run for governor, said the Empire State has not done enough to “protect” Jewish New Yorkers.
“Jewish New Yorkers make up 12% of the population yet account for more than 50% of hate crime victims in New York City,” he posted on X.
“New York has fundamentally failed to protect the Jewish community from a historic explosion of hate crimes.”
