At the Golden Globes, there was one notable topic on everyone’s lips: Zendaya’s engagement ring. The actor stepped out onto the red carpet solo, dressed in custom, apricot-hued Louis Vuitton with matching stilettos and Bulgari jewelry. It was the diamond sparkler on her left ring finger, however, that utterly stole the show.
Zendaya (who was nominated for best performance by a female actor in a motion picture, musical or comedy, for her role as Tashi in the summer hit Challengers) has remained tight-lipped about her relationship status, but showing off what appeared to be a large engagement ring on one of Hollywood’s biggest nights of the year immediately set tongues wagging.
A family friend confirmed to People magazine that the pair are set to marry, while another told the publication that “everyone close to them knew an engagement was happening” and added that actor Tom Holland, Zendaya’s husband-to-be, is “crazy” about her. “He always knew she was the one. They have something very special,” the source said. According to the publication, Holland popped the question to Zendaya over the Christmas period, apparently proposing with a breathtaking, 5.02-carat East West Cushion Diamond Button Back Ring from the fashion set’s favorite jeweler, Jessica McCormack.

Now this is romance.
The style, which features a cushion-cut diamond set in a Georgian style, cut-down setting in 18k white and yellow gold, is one of McCormack’s signature designs. It is (as one might expect of a diamond so large) price on request, but most jewelers have estimated it carries a six-figure price tag. Online, McCormack describes it as “a literal twist on a classic solitaire” thanks to its horizontal setting, and calls it “the perfect modern engagement ring… beloved by cool brides for its pared-back, non-traditional aesthetic.”
If Zendaya’s engagement ring is confirmed to be one of McCormack’s, it will come as no surprise, given the designer’s popularity among the society elite. A self-taught creator, McCormack grew up in New Zealand, the daughter of an auction house proprietor—meaning that from an early age, she was surrounded by vintage jewelry and antiques. After an internship at Sotheby’s, she decided to launch her eponymous brand with the help of two partners: Rachel Slack, the granddaughter of late De Beers chairman Harry Oppenheimer, and Michael Rosenfeld, a third-generation diamond dealer and art collector.

Both TMZ and People are now reporting that the star and Tom Holland got engaged over the holidays.
The trio set up shop in a townhouse on Mayfair’s moneyed Carlos Place, decked out with antiques, art and furniture hand-picked by McCormack—and, of course, sprinkled with delectable gems. Every piece is made by hand on site in the Mayfair workshop, and manages to read as simultaneously eye-catching and eminently wearable. The brand’s “everyday diamonds” set in blackened gold, along with plain-but-chunky rings and the now-iconic Gypset hoops, have now become staples in the jewelry boxes of famous tastemakers globally.

Victoria Beckham loves her emerald earrings, while Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is often spotted in her Ball n Chain necklace, hung with an enormous, pear-shaped diamond pendant. Meanwhile, Laura Dern, Liv Tyler, Billie Piper, Charlize Theron, and Lily James are all members of the designer’s #GypsetGirlGang. Earlier this year, McCormack announced Zoë Kravitz as the brand’s first ambassador, with the actor declaring that she “genuinely loved” the designer and her pieces. “As two female creatives, we have a mutual love and respect for each other’s work,” she said when the partnership was unveiled.
Another devoted fan of McCormack’s pieces is the Duchess of Sussex: in 2018, Meghan Markle wore a Māori tattoo-inspired diamond pendant from the brand while delivering a speech about women’s suffrage at Government House, while on a tour of McCormack’s native New Zealand. A year later, Meghan was spotted wearing McCormack’s simple gold ring, set with a heart-cut sapphire, for an outing to watch her friend, Serena Williams, play at Wimbledon. And just a few months after that, she wore a pair of ruby earrings from the label to the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance (making a touching nod in her choice of color, perhaps, to the red poppy).
Given the brand’s long list of enviable endorsements, it’s little wonder that Tom Holland has apparently chosen one of McCormack’s pieces as Zendaya’s engagement ring. Will she plump for one of the house’s matching wedding bands when the time comes? Only time will tell: when it comes to walking down the aisle, the couple are reportedly in no hurry. “They will just enjoy things for now and won’t rush a wedding,” a source told People. “They are both busy with work projects.”
