First unveiled as a part of a Cabinet of Wonders trilogy, the Louis Vuitton Escale “Snakes Jungle” is a timepiece that not only flaunts Maison’s artisanal prowess but also makes for the perfect timepiece to celebrate the upcoming Lunar New Year, which marks the Year of the Wood Snake.
Its métiers d’art dial depicts a vigorous serpent situated in a verdant bamboo forest, an intricate presentation that’s brought to life through Rose Saneuil’s multi-material marquetry, alongside meticulous hand-engraved and champlevé enamel details by Eddy Jaquet and Vanessa Lecci. A true display of artisanal craftsmanship, with the bamboo forest composed of wood, parchment and straw, seamlessly hand-assembled using marquetry techniques to achieve all 14 shades of green.
This scene extends beyond the dial, with bamboo leaves bursting out and spilling onto the case, symbolizing untamed nature. Produced in an extremely limited run of 20 pieces, the “Snakes Jungle” is presented in an 18-carat white gold case adorned with Japanese waves motif — an ornamental detail that is also iterated on the LFT023 movement, viewable through the open caseback.
The Japanese theme continues onto the watch strap. Drawing cues from the handle of katanas, the calf leather strap features a hand-braided construction, while its dark green hue harmonizes with the timepiece’s earthy palette.
