While Lady Gaga‘s acting role in Joker: Folie à Deux wasn’t considered at this year’s recent Golden Globes, the multi-hyphenate artist’s excellence in music has achieved a very rare accolade.
“Die With A Smile,” her duet with Bruno Mars released in August, finally reached the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 this week. Originally debuting at #3 in its first week, the song held up in the top ranks for months before reaching #1 during its 20th week. The achievement makes Gaga the third artist to hold multiple #1’s in three different decades, joining music legends (and siblings) Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson.
Arriving on the dance music scene with her avant-garde look in 2008, Gaga’s debut single “Just Dance” was her first #1. The achievement was quickly followed by “Poker Face” reaching #1 in 2009.
By 2011 Gaga achieved another #1 with the release of “Born This Way,” a dramatic stadium pop song dedicated to her LGBTQ+ fans. Right before the 2010s closed out, the artist joined Bradley Cooper in her feature film debut A Star Is Born, producing yet another #1 with “Shallow” in 2019.
Fast-forward to 2020, a cut from her sixth studio album Chromatica soared to the top spot: “Rain On Me” featuring Ariana Grande. The single’s position opened the door for Gaga to join the Jacksons as part of the small group with multi-decade hits, which was finally concretized by “Die With A Smile.”
Following the release of the lead single “Disease,” Lady Gaga’s seventh studio album is expected to be released within the first quarter of 2025. Stay tuned to Hypebeast for updates on the forthcoming LP and other music news.
