The Browns head into this offseason with a few positional needs, but one of the biggest ones is at quarterback.
With the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft, Cleveland is in a great position to get one of the top signal-callers. However, in The Big Lead’s Joe Lago’s latest projections, the Browns go in a different direction.
With Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders still available after Miami’s Cam Ward went first overall to the Titans, Cleveland takes Sanders’ former teammate, Travis Hunter.
“Only a couple of mocks have the Browns taking a quarterback (Ward). The majority have them taking the best player available, and that’s the Heisman Trophy-winning two-way playmaker,” Lago writes.
Although Deshaun Watson has left much to be desired in head coach Kevin Stefanski’s offensive system, he is under contract for two more years. It would be wise to draft a quarterback and sign a veteran, but it may be hard to pass on the best player in the draft altogether.
Hunter, the two-way star, could provide a dynamic weapon for Watson or whoever is under center or supply the defense with a shutdown corner, possibly both.
In 2024, Hunter caught 96 passes for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns on offense while notching 11 passes defended and four interceptions on defense.
