A documentary on First Lady Melania Trump directed by Brett Ratner is bound for Prime Video, a spokesperson for Amazon confirmed on Sunday morning.

The company has “exclusively licensed” the project “for both theatrical and streaming release,” they said, with the project to offer viewers “an unprecedented, behind-the-scenes look” at Trump.

Filming kicked off in December — one month after Donald Trump’s victory in a second presidential election — for an anticipated release in the second half of next year. Fernando Sulichin is exec producing for New Element Media, along with Mrs. Trump.

“Prime Video will be sharing more details on the project as filming progresses and release plans are finalized,” said the spokesperson. “We are excited to share this truly unique story with our millions of customers around the world.”

Most recently serving as First Lady during Donald Trump’s first presidential administration, from 2017 to 2021, Melania is a Slovenian former model and businesswoman who began her modeling career in her teens and later moved to Milan and Paris before settling in New York City in 1996. She first met Donald Trump in 1998, marrying him in 2005, before becoming a U.S. citizen in 2006. As First Lady, she’s perhaps best known for launching the “Be Best” initiative, focused on children’s well-being, online safety, and opioid abuse prevention.

The most notable aspect regarding the forthcoming doc on Trump would have to be the involvement of Ratner, a prominent director and producer best known for the Rush Hour films, who has stepped back from studio projects since 2017, when he faced multiple allegations of sexual misconduct at the height of the Me Too movement. Following these allegations, Ratner saw the severing of Warner Bros’ lucrative $450 million co-financing deal with his production company, RatPac Entertainment. He most recently directed an episode of the Nat Geo docuseries Breakthrough in 2015.
