The Boston Red Sox are a very talented team, but they desperately need to add more talent if they want to keep up with the powerhouses around the league.
They’ve added a few pitchers this winter, led by the huge acquisition of Garrett Crochet, but Boston shouldn’t be done adding just yet.
Cody Williams of FanSided recently predicted the Red Sox to shoot big at improving their roster this winter. Williams predicted Boston to pursue and potentially swing a blockbuster trade for the $85 million Chicago Cubs outfielder, Seiya Suzuki.
“Boston might be the one team — or at least one of the few — that could still sway Chicago to deal Suzuki after the Cody Bellinger and Kyle Tucker trades,” Williams wrote. “While there hasn’t been any real smoke since Bellinger was moved that the Cubs would want to trade Suzuki. However, this is still what appears to be an offseason in which Jed Hoyer is trying to shed some payroll while still helping the team compete, and the Red Sox could potentially work into that.”
Suzuki isn’t the best defender in the world, but he’s a very good hitter with the ability to slug. Playing at Fenway Park would benefit him as well.
Plus, Boston has the prospect capital and surplus of starting pitching to make a move for the Cubs outfielder, if Chicago decides to still shop him.
It’s not completely known whether the Cubs will be willing to trade him, but if Boston offers a good package in return, Chicago would be forced to listen to the offer.
